The Returning Troops.
, Dunedin,- May 4, It 13 now practically -settled that the reception to the: returning troopers will takeplace on Wednesday. At yesterday’s meeting of the Reception Cbmmittee it'was .stated that Christchurch wanted do entertain the droops, and Jjiafc, by order of the Commandant of the Forces, all troops except those from Otago and Southland will leave by, the north express on; the morning: following their arrival. The' Mayor remarked that he did nob know that the Premier would agree with the order of the Commandant. 1 The old High School boys’will entertain Colonel Robin at dinner. Money is coming, ih freely for the presentation purse of sovereigns to Colonel Robin, The Orient Reception Committee has handed over the balance in hand to the Tongariro Reception Comirrittijo. , There is a probability of all the ’"northern mod arriving by the Tongariro going by rail to OhrisL .church. , • May 5. Tho proposal, to billet the mem-bers-of the contingents returning by the Tongariro will be considered by the committee on Monday.-
The Mayor, of Timaru lias received the -following telegram from the Kohl W. Hall-Jones: : — The Tongariro is expected at Port Chalmers early on Tuesday morning. Her future! movements' are .uncertain, ‘ as she may bring Canterbury members of contingents on to- Lyttelton. •. I will,' however, advise yod re' special train on Monday. The men will probably not return direct to.th’eir homes, as it is necessary _ for theni to- be examined by ajnedical Board before leaving for their homes* This ■■would'take a day or two, hut' I willadvise whether matters can be arranged for Thursday next.” - -.
