The tYaikakahi ball took place last ’ -Thursday evening in Messrs Fleming •Bros.^Homestead, an d was alttehcfed by about 200 persons. The grainshed was beautifully decorated with evergreens, flags, fairy lamps and Chihoße lanterns. .•Meldrpm’s string band'’auppjied music, and the floor was as'smoOth as glass, r The Grand March toolc>placa shortly after 8 p.m: Mr (Waimate) officiated as M.G., and, by his attention to his duties,- gaveuniversal satisfaction. 1 Mr James Mitchell, of Oaraaru, undertook" the. catering, and, despite, the, large gather- ; ing, did his part successfully and well. Mr A. McNeill proposed three hearty cheers for the ladies'' com’mittee, to whose efforts the decorations were . duo. The ladies' committee comprised Mesdames Scott, Peebles and Dixon, and Miss Fleming. Mr Blacker then called for a similar compliment to the ball committee, which was responded d;> in the usual way. The gentlemen of the- ball committee’ were Messrs Aiming (chairman), ’ Dixon, Scott, McNeill, Fleming Bros. (3),, Sinclair (treasuroi) and I. M. Peebles (hon sec.). Meldrum’s string baud, which supplied excellent music, was also accorded a vote of thanks. The ball £>rbko up about 3.30 a.m., all expressing tbeir appreciation of the evening’s enjoyment,
