Bifore the Midland Kailway Comr mission to-day ihe Under Secretary f r Lands produced a return of land granted by the Crown to the Company or t<? t'u*tees. With regard to cummers counsrl fir the Crown said he wk?, agreeable to except as to English contracts as a test xftxiijf cf contrac’f which were £et by pubic tender. He supposed he ought to call evidence to >how what would be tbe ordinary arc> allowed for supervision. The -Chairman said he thought the returns before the showed •that some English contrac ora \v<-re-paid for work wnich was done other persons, .or not done at ali. Mr Young said the matter would satisfactorily explained. The Commis* •ion then adjourned till Monday next.
