The Waimate Tenuis Club took advantage of the excursion on Thursday to visit Oamaru and play a match against the Oamaru Club. The weather was rather threatening, but with the exception of a slight shower in the morning the rain kept off, and a most enjoyable day was spent. The visitors were altogether outclassed by the local players, and were beaten in every event except the ladies’ singles, in which Miss Manchester, by very fine
play, beat Miss Fleming, the Oamaru champion. Several of the other sets were stubbornly ; fought out, but the volleying and placing of the Oamaru players in each case proved in the end too good. The visitors were entertained at lunch and afternoon tea on the grounds, and treated with the well-known Oamaru hospitality. It is probable that a return match will be played at Wairnate on March 23rd. The following is a list of the games, the majority for Oamaru being 65 : Waiuaxe. Oamauu. SINGLES.
