Waimate School Excursion.
The annual excursion of the Waiinate School took place on Thursday,-to Oaraaru. A special train left Waiinate at 8.20 a.m., conveying the children and their friends, to the number of about GOO. Besides the Waiinate school children, scholars were taken from the Waituna, Kapua, Hannaton, Morven, Glenavy and Waitaki schools. Oarnarn was reached at 10.30 a.m., and a large number of the picnicers adjourned to the Oamaru Gardens, which had been opened to them by the Mayor. Others wandered through the town and around the harbour and wh-M’f. Lunch was partaken o! in the gardens, Mr Wise kindly providing hot water. During the afternoon, tennis and bowling matches were played between the Waimate. .and Ounaru Clubs, reports of which will be found elsewhere. A start was made for Waimate at 5.30 p.m., the destination being reached at 8 p.m. The excursion was voted by one and all to have beeti the best arranged and managed one that has ever taken place from Waimate.
