Robbery Under Arms.
- ■Wanganui, February 13. At the Wave-rloy Court yesterday, James Bourns was comm’tted for trial for the attempted murder of R. Hickson on February sth. Hickson, a clerk in the'Bank of New South Wales at Paten, was returning to Pa'ea after closing i ho branch bank at Waverley,wii h a I tag containing £3 loin cask and £21:1 in cheques. He heard some one following him, and on looking round Bourns lired a revolver point blank at him live or six yards away. Another shot was fired, piercing his overcoat, the. powder going on Ids ear. A constable luckily made Ida appearance, and Bourns decamped, hiding in a swamp, where he was eventually captuiod. Accused worked at Waverley eighteen months ago as a rouseahont, at which time the bank was broken into and £5!) stolen. On December 6:h last a futile attempt was made to break into the bank at the same place.
