Out of a total of 488 voters on the roll, 160 votes were cast-. In the first two hours the figure reached was 10, the next 20, the nest 50, the next 65, and the last hour 15. The voting closed at 6 o'clock, and at 7 the Returning Officer, Mr C. Akhurst (aoiing Town Clerk) declared the poll lo be as follows : — • Joseph Howard Dean 96 Votes John Cameron ... 91 „ Robert Tnkster ... 83 „ ; James Boyfcon Mil«orn 68 „ ', William Manchester 69 „ Arthur Colville ... 47 „ After the result had been declared, two of the returned candidates addressed those who had collected. Mr E. Inkster thanked the ratepayers for doing him the honour of again electing him to a seat on the Council. In the future, as in the past, he would always endeavour to have ,their money spent to the best actrantagB. - . Mr 3. H. Dean also addressed the gathering. He thanked thB ratepayers for placing him at the head of the poll and assured them he would' do all in his power for the good of tha Borough.
