SAILING SHIPS.
Notwithstanding the almost; absorbing competition of steam transit as against that of sail, the list oi sailing vestels due to arrive a 6 Melbourne within the next three months is nearly eighty. Of those about thirty are foreign owned, the Norwegian flag especially being well represented. When it is considered th it some of the mammoth steamers of the present day have a carrying capacity equal to five or six times the quantity of car^o" carried by an ordinary ship, the fact that the fleet of sailing vessels shows only a small falling off is remarkable. British owners areinclmed to dispose of their sailing vessels, and foreigners are ever ieady to purchase them.
