He claims he is not bound by Prinsloo's surrender and intends to continue the war. General Hamilton, at Magaliesburg, captured seventeen Boers. They declared that they received only soft-nosed bullets. The consequence is that the wounds received during the fight are serious. Christian Botha, with 8000 men, is laagered between Amersport and Ermelo. Delarey is retiring before General Hamilton, after a stubborn attempt to hold the hills round Magaliesberg. Three hundred resisted Argyles and Berkshires with six guns for five hours. General French reconnoitred thirty miles north-east of Middlesberg without mooting with any organised resistance from the Boers. General Downing has occupied Harrismith,blockingOlivier's escape to the Drakensburg mountains. Colonel Gough, with 500 mounted infantry and six gun*, smartly surprised the Boers at Klip River.
August 7. There are 1800 British prisoners at Nooitgedacht, Who are being infamously treated. Colonel Grough destroyed the ! house of a Boer named Delenge, on the Klip Bive*, and seized 150 of his cattle for refusing to surrender a aximber of Bosrs who had been forcibly re-enlisted. The Boors have occupied the springs 25 miles east of Johannesburg and threaten to destroy valuable coal mines. Lorenzo Marqubz, -August 6. While 102 imported cases of socalled disinfectants were being entrained at Delagoa Bay dne dropped and exploded. It is alleged that the disinfectants were intended to manufacture Boer ei^losives.
