We take the following from ' the Herald's report of Tuesday's meeting of the Timaru Harbour Board :—: — Pursuant on notice, Mr Thew moved and Mr Skinner seconded — " That the solicitors to the Board be instructed to prepare a local Bill to be introduced into Pai'liament this session, with the object of including the Borough of Waimate in the Timaru Harbour District, andi|that Mr HallJonas, member for the district, be asked to take charge of the Bill ; and that the chairman be empowered to take the necessary steps to ensure the passing of the Bill." Mover and seconder, and Messie Young, P t ingle, Macintosh and the chairman spoke in favour of the motion as as a matter of I fairness, the Waimate Borough reaping all th© benefits of the harbour whil« paying nothing towards its maintenance Mr Manchesterer pointed out that it would be only reasonable to give ratepayers of the borough an opportunity of presenting their side of the question. There being no one on the Board representing them i<- would be a one-sided affair unless they were consulted.
On this suggestion Mr Thew ut»ld over bis motion, and it was resolved that "The Wai mate Borough Council bo written to and advised that this Board considers that Wai mate Borough should be included in the Timatn Harbour district ; that the matter will be fully discussed at the next meeting of the Board ; and that the Board will be glad to meet a deputation from the Waimate Council at its next meeting, to discuss the whole question." This motion was diawn up by Mr Macintosh, and moved and seconded by Messrs Thew and Lyall, and carried uuanimousl}'.
