It is interesting to day to recall the fact that 19 years ago tlnee of the m^n who now figure most largely in the eyos of the world used to dine together in the Inner Temple Hall, Louden, as law students as "unknown to each other as to fame. The senior of these students v.'as Alfred Milner, fresh from a brilliant career at Oxford, and about to begin his work in journalism. The second of the trio was W. P. Schreiner, still & Carubudge undergraduate, with all his laurels before him ; and the third was Martinos Tounia Steyn, the clover son of a Free State waggon maker. To day, as the world knows, these threo obscura students are respectively Governor of Cape Colony and High Commissioner of South Africa, Premier of Cape Colony, and President of the Orange Free State.
