A meeting of ratepayers was held in < ib e Library Hall, St. Andrews, on ■Saturday evening, to discuss matters • ln connection with the water race. Mr D Stowell presided, and explained that ! tWs meeting had hem called before the July annual meeting, so that if the ratepayers decided on appointing a ranßer he might get *° W ° rk When there was a good supply of water in , t he river. The Bey. Mr Brady said that if the original plan of the engineers had bad adhered to there would have : b een no trouble with the water race. Ta answer 4o a question, the chairman , explained that the loan had still 16 vein to ran. Mr W. Tooley moved nd Mr Brady seconded that a ranger 'be appointed. Mr Williams moved nd Mr Grillatly seconded that no , "anger be appointed. On being put to the meeting, the amendment was declared carried.
