At the meeting of tho above Board •on Tuesday tenders for the eastern • extension of tha breakwater were < opanecl as follows : — Black and Stumbles « offered to do tthe work according to specifications for ..£44,943 6s 7d, and they attached a 'schedule of quantities showing how the ■•amount had been arrived at, as follows : — 180,000 tons of rubble blocks, .^31,637 10s ; 1200 ft staging, £9872 "403-sd; tram line, 3 miles 62 chains or (thereabouts, £3383 6a 2d ; total, £44,943 6a 7d. They .quoted extra bubble blocks tB"be used for the eonicrete arm of the breakwater at 4s per 'ton. Messrs Nicholas Wall, blackSBuiith, Waimate, and Pefcer Sinclair, 'blacksmith, Tiaiaru, were the guarantors for these tenderers. Messrs Palliser and Jones, of Wel1 'Iragton, tendered at M5,95Q for the 'whole work, the proportions being as follows -.—180,000 tons of reliable 'blocks at 3s 7d par ton, total, JE32.250 ; 1200 ft of staging, £10,000; tramline, •3 miles 82 chains or thereabouts, £3700, total, £45,950. Price for extra rabble blocks to bo used for the arm •of the breakwater, 4a per ton. Tha iguarantora in this case were Mr MeGrill •of Wellington, and Mr E. Chapman, <of Waitohi. The only other tender was that of Mr Allan .McGuire, Wellington, who l sent his tender by wire. The price in { this case was J948,865, apportioned as follows :— Bubble blocks, £37,500 ; 'tram line, JEoOOO ; and staging JSG36S, total, £48,865.
