Country News. HUNTER. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT).
A large congregation was present on Sunday afternoon at the Easter service in the Anglican church, which was taken by the Vicar of the parish, the Rev. McEenzie Gibson. The church was very prettily decorated by the members of the choir, who, during the service, rendered appropriate hytnns, Miss M. Gibson officiating as organist. The Rev. Mr Fowler has commenced choir practices in this district, which are held every Friday evening, and the choir shou'd derive much benefit from his excellent teaching. The majority of the farmers seem, anxious to have their grain threshed, consequently the threshing machines are in great demand just at present. Some very good crops are being threshed, although the average yield of grain 13 not so good this year as last. Turnip crops in this district are very scarce, the few there are being not aft all good. The rain which we received this week will do much good, it was sadly needed, as the paddocks had quite a dry and bare appearance, tut now the green feed should spring up i once again.
