Mr Larke, Canadian Com-; missioner of Australia, in a letter addressed to the Premier, says that-< if the concession demanded by the ' Eastern Extension Company for the Cape cable is granted, the company secures a monopoly of the \ business. Canada's share of the loss in the working of the Pacific" Cable will be £30,000 annually.,. He questions if the Canadian or*Imperial Governments care to| undertake such a loss. This puts! an end to the Pacific scheme.
