The Premier has received a cable, from the Premier of New South Wales stating that he (Mr Seddon) is reported to have alluded in disparaging terras to the fiscal policy of New South Wales, and to have alleged that there was a .deficiency of Mr Reid explains that the ■deficiency in question arose several years ago. A new system in the financial and fiscal policy of the colony, inaugurated by the present Government in, 1815, has shown in every one" of four years since a credit balance after paying in reduction of the deficiency in question, sums amounting to i- 500,000. This innovation will no doubt be fully appreciated. - Cape Cod. — The Rivorton Star saysthat large shoals of Cape cod havabeen frequenting the shore,* of Southland of late. In appearande they are like the r«d cod, 'but much larger and coarser. From their livers splendid oil is obtained, equal, from all appearance to the imported article used in' cases of consumption.
