Concealment of Birth. [By Telegraph.] (FROM OUR SPECIAL CORRESPONDENT.) Timaru, August 11.

H. Gooch and G. Gooch weie to-day chaiged with concealment of birth. Mr White for prosecution stated charge laid under sechon 174 of tbe Ciiroinal Code Act, which makes everyone liable to two years' imprisonment with hard labour who disposes of the dead body of a child in any manner with intent to conceal the fact that its mother had been delivered' of it. A good deal of the evidence was the same as given at the inquest. For the defence, Mi Raymond called no witnessaes, but addressed the flfourt at some length, submitting that the Crown bad not only not proved that theie was intent to conceal fact of bhth, but evidence adduced pioved there had been no concealment. There might have been *. breach of the Cemeteries Act, though that was doubttul. In giving judgment, the Court thought the paities would have been moia prudent if they had informed -the police of what they were dome, probably in that case nothing would have been beard of it. In this case they thought there was no evidence of intent to conceal birth to bring befoie a jury, and the case would be dismissed.
