Capetown, June 11. ' The action of the Orange Free States, Volksraad in unanimously adopting iv resolution approving of President Kruger's attitude has created a favourable impression at Bloenifontein.
Pretoria^ June 12. The trial of the Johannesburg conspirators has commenced at Agar* Ellis, the informer, in his evidence vaguely implicated capitalists belonging to the South African League. Mitchell, who formerly served in the Zulu war, deposed that Nicholls was the ringleader of the inovemeut, and Patterson invited him to join* pretending that the British would help them. A detective deposed that Patterson was a member of the Australian Soudan Contingent. Influential circles at Pretoria strongly favour the peaceful solution of the dispute with the Outlanders. Extra rolling stock has been sent to Johannesburg in the event of an exodus taking place. In Boer circles it is expected that President Kruger will abolish the dynamite monopoly. The leaders of the Africander party urge an addition of four nimnbers to the Volksraad to represent the Chamber of Mines and the Chamber of Commerce, and that the enlarged Volksraad be left to settle the franchise question.
June 13. President Kruger has submitted to the Eaad further amendments in the direction of liberalising the treatment of miners. This is regarded <xs pointing to pocsible enfranchisement pro* posals.
Capetown, June 13. Sir A. Milner, replying to a deputation, said that unless the Transvaal were granted more liberal treatment other means would be found of achieving the desired result. He referred to Britain's singular patience In the mat* ter. The Chartered Company have re* newed their offer to submit the ques* tion of material damage occasioned hy the Jameson raid to arbitration.
