Hunter. BY A CORRESPONDENT.

On Wednesday evening, the 81sl May, the Hunter Library and Recreation Club hold n social in the schoolroom. There was a large gathering of members and their friends. Dancing was the main feature of the' evening's entertainment, hut tables were pro\idod at which the non dancers might play »cards and cluaughts. .The music was provided by the Hunter String Band and Mr I). Mcßeth acted as M.G. Between the dances songs, recitations and readings weie given by several of the company. At about 12 o'clock the lady members passed round refreshments, winch were much appreciated. After all had been seived and ' the clatter of cups and saucers had ceased, the chairman of the Library committee, Mr D. Mcßeth, made a short speech referring to the object of the gathering, viz., to celebrate the opening of a new cupboard and the arrival of a fresh stock of books which the committee had purchased. The cupboard they had been flying so ' fat was unsatisfactory, aud th,e l old boois . had been read and re read. He hoped' that with new books and an increased rnembei-sLup, and the new supply of j books the Hunter Library w.ouJd continue to be a fact or for good throughout the district. After a few more remarks about finance aud other matters, he called on the secretary (Mr H. Kelcher) to- read the .rules and regulations lately drawn up by the committee for the protection of the library property.
