THE SCHOOL FLAG.
(to the editor). Sis, — Some time sinee -a flag vr&s given to the people of 'Waimate, .and unfurled in Victoria Park. The flag was rolled up in due form and run up to the mast-head. The Waimate Band played "-God "-Save the Queen," and behold out flew the Pilot "Jack to the disgust of all , -who knew anything about flags- On Thursday •week last the public were called out to see another flag unfurled. The school children were -called out and the Waimate Band was again present. The chairman of the Sthool Committee made a great speech, commenting on this noted flag, and -'Gordon, Wolseley, Roberts. Kit- . chener and all the big generals were mentioned. iThen such. a bungle was made of getting the flag to the mast-head, -and again out flew the noted'Pilot- Jack. "I think it is a • disgrace to see such a flag flying on a. Government building. But it is -a noted with the people of Waimate. If the New Zealand pilot should be on the coast and see the flag flying, he will try to come overland to the of his flag. — I am, etc., Old Salt.
