In answer to Edith w« have received the following : —

SULTANA CAKE. Beat to a cream •£• lb. butter and 4- lb. white sifted sugar. Add, one at a time, 4eggs, beating each one in with the butter and sugar before adding the next. Now shake in 1 lb. of flour, taking care that there are no lumps, previously adding to it 1 teaspo_onful of baking powder, mix, and lightly stir in £ lb. of sultanas. Pour into a mould or cake tin, and bake in a quick oven. To test if it is done, thrust a fine knitting needle into the cake — if it is cooked through, the-needle will come .out clean. L. B. wants a recipe for ginger-nuts. A subscriber sends a recipe (all the way from Waipawa, N. 1.) in answer to Mary, Waihao, who enquired on Sept. 10th.

PLAIN CURRANT LOAF. Set a sponge the same as for Jbread. When risen sufficiently,- to every pint of sponge add three tablespoonfuls each of butter and sugar which have been melted together, add a quarter of a cup of .currants. Knead in the flour the same as for- bread. Set to rise again. When risen, form into loaves and bake.
