Last week. Ernest Cummingg vra» the successful drawer (out of four) for Lot 31 (40 acres) B. 1126, near Waimate. Magistrate's Coukt. — Oa Monday last, before Mr W. Coltinan, J.P., W. Tipping was fined 20s for drunkenness. — On Thursday, before Major Keddell, S.M.. a, young man was charged with supplying Mary Vincent, a prohibited pernon, with liquor. After hearing the evidence of Mary Vincent, P. Dooley, and Constable Parker, the Bench inflicted a fine of L 3, with costs 11s. M'Donald and M'Donald v. Scott, claim L 3 3s on judgment summoni. Defendant did not appear, and an order was made for payment of amount forthwith, in default thiee weeks imprisonment in Lyttelton gaol. Manchester Bros, v. John Itoss, claim L 3 13s on judgment summons. Defendant offered and was ordered to pay 4s per month. The Bench ordered the amount to be paid forthwith, in default 14 days iv Timaru Gaol, such order to be suspended while the monthly instalments were paid. There was no objection to the ratepayers' list of the Wainono Land Drainage district, and the Magistrate signed it. The uiual meeting of the Loyal, Heart of Friendship Lodge, M.U., was held in the Lodge on Monday evening, N.G., Bro. Swan presiding. There was a large attendance of brethren, inoludingßro. H. G. Barclay. The N.G., on behalf of the Lodge, welcomed JJro. Barclay back, and trusted he benefitled by his trip. D.P.G.M. Bro. Asquith proposed the toast of the evening. Dr Barclay, in reply, gate a very inteiesting description of his trip to Frisco and back, which was gieatly enjoyed by all. He also promised to give the Lodge a gramaphone performance at some meeting. Sick pay was passed for payment on account of two memberi, also tvecounts amounting to L2l 4s 4d. Correspondence wai read and dealt with from •Chrutohurch, Wellington, and Ashburton. One candidate was elected and duly initiated into the rites of the Order by the G.M., Bro. Collett. It was resolved that the Lodge arrange with the Foresters' Lodge for a crib and euchre tournament. It was resolved to «all members' attention to the doctor's hours. The secretary informed the Lodge that the united church parade would be held on Nov. 6th, and meet at the Foresters' Hall. .The sports oommittee reported everything in a satisfactory condition for forthcoming sports. The first, second, and third sentiment! were given and responded to, and the Lodge duly closed at 10 p.m. Burglary.— -At midnight on Sunday a Waimate buiinesi man who resides on hit premises was wakened from his peaceful •lumbers by a noise. Listening intently, ha beard noises of padded feet. Being of a courageous disposition he armed himself with a Colt revolver, hurriedly fixed the bayonet on his Martini-Henry rifle, and •allied forth to capture the intruder. He stealthily procaeded downstairs and found all safe. The noises still continuing he crept upstairs and into the room from whioh they proceeded, and oh, horror of horrors,, as ne opened the door he felt a sharp pain in his jihoulder. Putting up his hand, he (disengaged a small cat which had been presented to his wife two days before. Hastily opening the window, he assisted the cat into the street, and a flash of electricity from a post it happened to touch showed that it was putting up good time iv the race for home. , ,At the Timaru A. and P. Fmbndly Soci!?ies Sports Committee Merting.— A meeting of the above was held in the secretary's office on Wednesday evening; present — J. T. Edwards (chair), B. Betten, F. Wilce, J. Loper, S. Butcher, J. Manchester, H. Agquith, J. Williams and A. M. Taaffa (sec). Tenders were optned for the right of having a confectioner's booth on the ground, and that of Mr W. Miller, at L 2 10i, was accepted. The offer of J. Williams for the eardi wag accepted. Besolved that the Band be engaged, the secretary and the treasurer to arrange term*. The secretary was instructed to forward amount necessary to affiliate with the League of New Zealand Wheelmen.
