D.-Blackmore at the residence of his son-in-law, Mr.John liinton, for the purpose of presenting him with some token of the in which he is'held by the residents of ithe district. Childs, junr., presented Mr Blackmore with a purse of sovereigns, and remarked that the district cquld not allow him to retire from a positioa which he had occupied for bo long a period jbnd the duties he -had discharged in so satisfactory a manner, withoutsome tangible recognition. All are sorry to lose Mr Blackmore's services, but it is some pleasure to know that 'he is not going to leave the district altogetherHe is'going to take up sheepfaiming, and all wish him God speed in his new venture. Mr Blackmere suitably replied, thanking the district for their substantial present, which would always cause him to think with pleasure of the by-gone days. After spending a pleasant locial hour and singing " Auld Lang Syne," the deputation left. The Timaru staff — Mr Blackmore's fellowemployees — have presented him with a bandeome silver ebony walking stick, suitably inicribed, and a massive silver albert with a pendant containing the two railway running ■ignals, green and red.
