CORRESPONDENCE.
O Correspondents' opinions are not necessarily ours.
(to the editor). Sic,— I noticed a letter, signed " Advance Batepayer," in one of your issues in which he tried to make it appear that someone in the Council's employ was not doing a fair day's work for a fair day's pay. Now, I wonder how much "Advance Eatepayer" pays in rates, if any, or is ho only trying to throw discredit on the men employed by Mr Black. Now, I had twelve months' experience in the Waimate County as ranger, and may state I came in contact with every man in the Council's employ* both morning, noon, and night, and never during my time did I see a man employed by the Council leave his work before his time ; but to the contrary, working overtime. For the overseer knows very well the men to tru»t to do a day's work. But he only wants a day's work done, not a man's lif6 time as I think our "Advance Ratepayer" would want. I will have more to say later on.— lam, etc., W. J. Hbnert. Glenavy.
(to the editor.) 'Sib , — Ee a small matter that has happened ifco me with the Wamiate police. I wish with your peimission to make it public. I repoited tthem for neglect of their duty, .and received woid from Inspector Broham that inquiry ~ha.& been made .and my charge was false. I made three chaiges, one for allowing Sunday trading, and two for .allowing persons to leave the town, in a drunken state, while in charge of a team of horses. One of the charges I am not sure of, but two of them.aie too tiue. I have been belied, but I expect it is the way of the world, considering we have not got a society of brotheily love and truth. — I am, *etc, J. J. "White.
