NORTH OTAGO Y. SOUTH CANTERBURY.
The inter-union maieh, North Ofcago v. South Canterbury, was played in Victoria Paik, Waimate, on Thursday. The weather was perfect for football, ..and the ground in splendid order. The arrangements were most complete and everything went oft' satisfactorily. South Canterbury kicked oil, and some pretty play between Booth, Toohey, Fiynn, and drawshaw (Ofcago), enabled the latter to score. The kick at goal by Booth , was a failure. This roused South Canterbury whose forwards now played up, and by rushe3 rennved play to Oiago line, Ghldstone, .Roddick, and Pox being prominent. Strains followed befoie the Otago goal, when Collins snapping up the ball, transferred to Shirtclilfe, he passed in the nick of tima to Thomas who touched do>vn. Presla'id took the kick but was not successful. Even play followed up to half time without further score, tlie score being three all. On resuming, South Canterbury began to show to advantage, especially in the open forward play, but the clean kicking and handling by the Otago backs kept things pretty even, till from a dribbling rush by the South Canterbury forwards, Fox scored behind the posts, Goldstone converted. This try was disputed by Otago. Play no»v became fast and furious, and a little" rough, but no further score resulted, and the whistle sounded with the score South Canterbury 8, Otago 3. For South Canterbury, Shirtcliffe, .Thomas, and Collins (backs), and Eoddick, Presland, and Fox (forwards) were the pick, and for North Otago, Toohey, Booth, and Crawshaw (backs), Connelly, Moss, and King (forwards) were most prominent. ■
