(to the editoe.) Sik, — I noticed a mistake in your Idea contemporary awhile back, being a statement that the majority of the Gordon Highlanders weie Irish *nd English, particularly the former. I could not, with good authority, contradict such an assertion at the time, but I have since ascertained, through one of the Home papers, that such- a statement was ridiculous. The following figures, communicated by the lieutenant of the 2nd Battalion, will prove that the Gordon Highlanders ara overwhelmingly Scottish. The total strength of the 2nd Battalion is, or was, 780 men. Of these 634 were Scottish, 139 English, 5 Irish, and 2 Colonials. This shows about 18 -per cent. English, 81 Scottish, -while the Irish rank about Ito eveiy 100 Scots. The abova figures apply to the 2nd Battalion of the Gordons, and of couise the Ist Battalion is an echo of the 2nd, the brave old 92nd. — I am, etc., J. G. COOPER.
