STAFFORD STREET SPORTS.

These sports.'which have decidedly been the most popular during" the holidays, recommenced on Saturday, at eleven o'clock, when a large crowd of persons assembled. The first event was Tilting at the Ring, for which there were sixteen entries, viz :—Messrs Haywood, Reidy, Holt, Day, Thompson, Curie, Cameron, Marshall, Clarko, Macpherson, Garforth, Collins, Pcrcival, Hill, Hitchinß, and Ward. Each competitor entered the ring mounted on a capital horse, and they had gone once round the ring when the heavy rain effectually put a stop to further proceedings, but not before Messrs Reidy, Day, Thompson, Garforth, and Hitchins had each managed to carry off a ring. The tilting will be resumed on New Year's Day. The first prize is LlO, and the second L 3. Thero was also a boys' foot raco of 250 yards for a Christmas cake given -by Mr Macdonald, and for this three lads entered, viz., Jacobs, Levy, and Breeze. Jacobs won the prize, Levy saving his stakes.
