BY INTESPBOVISCIAIi TEIEGEAM. I (raOM THE CHBISTCHTTECH PAPEB3.) Tuesday, Dec. 10. There are rumors current that the Auckland dividends will be paid by the' Colonial Treasury. Grove, of Tuapeka, has been prospecting near Terawiti for the past three weeks with three others, partly at the cost of the Government. He reports the field sufficient to give six shillings a day for a few hundred men. He starts again directly for a month's tour. The gold is found in creeks, but there is no quartz. The neighborhood has been so often prospected, that the public is sceptical of there being a payable field. Wednesday, Dec. 11. Dr. Hector has returned from his geological trip up the East Coast, across the Taupo district, and down the West Coast through the King boundaries. He reports the whole country peaceful, and the natives anxious for settlers.

The "Lyttelton Times" sajs :— "We learn that the Canterbury ' pilgrims' intend to invite Lord Lyttelton and Mr Selfo to a dejeuner during their approaching visit, in recognition of the -warm interest they have always taken in the province, and of the substantial services they have rendered on many occasions." A despatch, dated September 26th, from the Secretary of State for the Colonies to Sir Q-eorge Grey, states that Her Majesty has been advised not to comply with the petij^it" of the Otago Provincial Council, of June last, for the separation of the two islands. It is said to be tho intention of th» Colonial Ministry to present Sir George Grey, before his departure for England, with an address expressive of their high admiration of the devoted attention and great ability he has displayed in the discharge of his public duties, and of their sense of the injustice with which he has beee treated by the Home Government.
