Provisions remain unaltered, excepting butter, this item has not maintained recent dates, bringing from Is 2d to Is 3d, a prime parcel of Canterbury realising an average of Is Id; inferior is totally unsaleable. There is a slight improvement in brandies, consequent on late Australian advices, the advance quoted has not yet been realised hero. Geneva is slightly better, in othor spirits and wines there is no alteration ; country business has beon active, and the Coast goldfields have afforded more employment to wholesale houses. Spring trado having fairly set in, the amount collected at customs for import duties for tho week amounted to £2560 193 4d. Mr G. W. Einney reports the following sales during tho week : — Ex Lconidias, potatoes L-Ji 12s Gd, bran Is 4d, chaff Ll2 10s, Geelong eggs Is Id, butter (inferior) s£d, Newcsdtlo coals L 2 17s ; ex Pilot, chaff LlO 10s; cargo of Adelaide flour ex Sarah and Mary at Ll7, bran Is 4d ; ex Hector, eggs Ls 9d, fowls 10s, ducks 15s, turkeys 25s per couple ; pigs averaging L 2 5s each. A largo assortment of merchandise at mart at satisfactory rates; also property in Tancred street for L 200; furniture on same premises realising good prices.
