We take the following from the " Argus " ! of the 2nd instant :—: — Business in the import market to-day has shows little animation. In breadstuff's, no sales of flour aro reported, and quotations for Victorian are in a measure nominal at Ll2 to Ll2 ss. There is a fair amount of trado doing in maize, nnd amongst other sales wo hear of some 600 bags having boen placed at 3s 2d. A small parcel of Tasmanian oats has been disposed of at 2s 10£ d. Sales of candles are mentioned at lid. Wo learn of a shipment of forty bales of wool-packs having changed hands at fully 4s. In tea 3 we noto tho sale by auction of 2519 packages of tho Louse Kohn's cargo, being the damaged portion of it, at satisfactory prices, condition considered. Sales of sugar have been made at L 35 10s for grey crystals. A line of fencing wire (No. 9) was placed at Ll9. A very briik inquiry for Patna rice has been experienced, for trade purposes, numerous sales having been effected at L3O and L 32, according to quality. Old rice hns blbo been

in demand, at 23 and L 24;2 4; one lino of twenty tons was placed at about our quotations. There is more doing in provisions, though the trado done is still on a very moderate scale. Varoy's hams have met witli buyers, in^ parcels, at 13 £d to 14d. Cheese is moved oiF at from 14Jd to 15, according to quality. A very considerable demand exist 3 for bulk beer for export, and largo transactions in Bass's ale are said to be pending. Sales of ten per cent o.p. rum are inentionod at 3s.
