Oct. 24. The Estimates having been all passed, Parliament is likely to be dissolved shortly. The correspondence between the Government and the northern territory proprietors at home has been published. The latter demand that the purchasemoney shall be immediately refunded, with interest. The weather is cooler, with signs of rain. The corn market is quiet, owing to the absence of shipping. Small sales of wheat are reported, at 4s lO^d. There is no quantity on offer under ss. Large sales of country flour are reported at Lll to Lll 10s. October 26. Captain Dougla3 reports having seen two large waterspouts yesterday morning. A Bush Fires Bill has been introduced by the Government, but they failed to cany it, in consequence of three separate count-outs of the Assembly during the discHssion. The Bill attempted to forbid the use of all matches but Bryant and May's safety matches. The weather is fine, with signs of a continuance. October 28. Red rust is showing itself extensively in the crops in Port Gawler district. October 29. A hoax was perpetrated last night. Some persons obtained access to the guns in the park lands, and fired the signal arranged to indicate the arrival of the "ajatea. All the town turned out. The Municipal Council has confirmed the lease of the town hall, for theatrical purposes, to Mr Coppin Mr Justice Wearing leaves to-morrow, to hold a circuit court in the south-eastern district. m, . _, Hay, October 31. The steamer Murrumbidgee has sunk in the river of the same name, fi Y e miles
below this place. She had on board 139 bales of Illillawa wool— sixty -nine of Severne Brothers', and forty of G. Fairbairn's. In turning a sharp bend of the river she canted over, and rapidly filled. There was a strong current at the time. The wool is insured, but nottheVsteamer. A heavy flood is coming down flic river.
