SAVINGS BANK.

(to the editor of the west coast times.) Sik— Your remarks on tho successful opening of the above institution, and tho benefits to be derived from it, have attracted considerable attention among would-be depositors, who arc desirous of ascertaining what security they would have for their deposits. Seeing that you take a lively interest in the matter, is my apology for seeking the information. If satisfactory, I doubt not it will establish confidence, aud tend to greatly increase the number of depositors. Yours, &c, A would-be DErosiTon. Hokitika, Nov. 19, 1866. [The bank is nndcr Government supervision, and depositors have therefore the guarantee of tho colony. We extract the following from the 22nd clause of the Savings Bank Act : — " If the moneys so received by the said trustees, after paying therefrom the salaries, charges, and expenses of any such bank, shall be insufficient to pay interest on deposits at the rate which is or may be fixed, the sum required to make up such deficiency shall be payable by warrant under the hand of the Governor for the timo being, out of tho general revenue of the colony, and shall be placed by the Colonial Treasurer to the debit of the Province in which such bank may be situated.
