October 30. The weather is intensely hot. The thermometer in the shade at three o'clock stood at 102. Great opposition is being made by the Roman Catholics to the new Marriage Bill. The Sugar ex Sea Shell has been offered at auction. Only -1700 bags were sold. Fine white crystals, L4O; yellow crystals, L 34 12s. 6d. to L 36 17s 6d.; yellow counters, L 3255. to L 35 ss. ; fine rations, L 24 2s. 6d. There are no transactions in wheat and flour, and no change in prices. Wheat, 4s. to 4s. 3d.; flour, LlO to Lll. The four-pound loaf is beiug retailed at 4£d each. It is expected that the steamer Salamander will be despatched to the Northern Territory. Iv the Supreme Court yesterday the judges decided that sailors' advance notes cannot be sued upon by persons to whom they are assigned.
