(Before G. G. Fitzgerald, Esq., R.M.) Tuesjuy, Skptemukr 18. Drunk and Incapable. — Alexander Thomson was fined ss, or in default twenty-four hours' imprisonment, with hard labor. Larceny. — Isabella Johnston, alias Gann, charged by Thomas L>ughnan with the larceny of a L 5 note, was again remanded, at the request of the police, until to-morrow (this day). The accused was admitted to bail— herself in LIOO, and one surety in LSO. Escvpixg from Ltkjai, Oustodv. — Patrick Downs, charged with this offence, was remanded until to-morrow, the 19ih instant, at the request of the police. . AssAvr/r. — Donald Cameron, charged by Hugh Gordon with assaulting him on the 11th instant, was finqd Ll. — Thomas Learniont was charged by Frederick Parker with assaulting him at the Kanieri, on the 1 3th instant. Neither party appearing, the information was dismissed. Brkvch op Canterbury Police Ordinance. — Alfred Howard was charged, on the information of Constable Wood, with depositing rubbish in Revell street south, on the 11th instant. The summons in this case was not served. The Magistrate ordered the date of ,the summons to he enlarged to Friday, the 21st instant.— John Davey wa3 charged, on the information of John Marks, with, wilfully and maliciously destroying, at the Carriers' Arms, Five-Mile Track, on the 11th instant, from two to three dozen tumblers, valued at L-3 sterling. The summons, in this case, was not served. The same order as in the last

case was made as regards tho summons. Attempting to Commit Suicide. — Thomas Bradley was charged with attempting to put an end to his existence, by taking pois >n. Mr James Kennedy, landlord of the Robbie Burns Hotel, lleveli street, was called, and stated that in the early part of the month of September, Bradley was stopping at his hotel. On the afternoon of the 4th instant the witness and Bradley were sitting in the same room. Bradley had his back towards Mr Kennedy, who, noticing that he \yas excited, asked him what was the matter. Bradley replied that he had done for himself, or something to that effect. The witness then observed a wine glass on the table, with the dregs of some red powder in it. Mr Kennedy, suspecting that Bradley had attempted his life by poison, went over to Mr Prosser's where he was told that ho had purchased some grains of a powder called "red precipitate." Dr Dcrmott was next called, and stated that he was called in to attend Bradley, whom he fouud quite insensible. After the use of the stomach pump, and strong emetics, Bradley rallied sufficiently to bo removed to the hos[ ital. Dr Ryley was next called, and corroborated Dr Dermott'd evidence. The .witness further stated that Bradley had been under treatment at tho hospital for some time, but was now quite recovered, lie had been suffering from delirium fremeiis, and was insane when he ' took the poison. The Magistrate discharged Bradley. Larceny. — William West was charged with the larceny of a shoulder of mutton, of the value of 6s, the property of Aune Watkins. It appeared that the prisoner, as he was passing the prosecutrix's • shop, \Ya9 seen by a person of the name of Grumwald to take a shoulder of mutton, off the meat block, and put it under his coat. The meat was produced and identified by Mrs Watkins. The Magistrate sentenced West to four days' imprisonment with hard labor. There were a few civil cases, for small amounts, disposed of to day. The judg-' ment, in most instances, went by default. .The Court was then adjourned until eleven o'clock to-jnorrow (this day).
