VICTORIA. (From the "Argus.")
The Hon. Sir J. 11. T. Manners-Sut-ton, the new Governor of Victoria, landed from the Ellora on the evening- of the 13th August, but too late for the formal reception which had been intended by the mayor and corporation. On the 15th he took the usual oaths, in front of the Treasury Buildings, in the presence of 5000 persons, by whom he was heartily cheered. His Excellency held a levee at the old Exhibition Building on Thursday last. The attendance on the occasion was unusually numerous. Parliament has been further prorogued to Tuesday, October 2nd next. It is rumored that it will be opened in November for a short session before the Christmas holidays. Postal regulations have been issued, under which letters and packets can be conveyed to the United Kingdom or any portion of America bj* the Panama mail route. Mr Sullivan, M.L.A., late Minister of Mines, proceeds to Panama by the next mail steamer from Sydney, on a short visit to the Isthmus of Darien. The ro)'al visitors, the Due de Penthievre and the Comte de Beauvoii-, accompanied by Capt Flauvel, have been seeing a good deal of the colony since their arrival, travelling to several of the best goldfields, the pastoral country, the transMurray districts, and some of the best sporting grounds. To quote the "Bendigo Independent," — " Their plain unostentatious manner has won them the good opinion of all who have had the honor of conversing with them." They are about to proceed to Sydney; and thence to California. .
