In the General Assembly, new Distillation Act proposed ; Government declining to introduce the bill during present session. The tariff is to be revised, and a stamp duty prepared. A committee has been appointed to enquire into the postal service and^the Panama contract. Resolutions have been passed in favor of the defence of the colony. The Weymouth had arrived with the telegraph cable, which was expected to be laid and at work in a months
