IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE.
The usual weekly meeting of the Improvement Committee was held at Bracken's Hotel, on Thursday last, when,after the minutes of the previous meeting had been confirmed, a letter was read from the Secretary of Public Works in answer to a memorial concerning the state of the river bank. This letter informed the committee that, as Mr Moorhouso would shortly arrive in Westland, the question must necessarily be deferred until then. On the motion of Mr Clark, which was seconded by Mr Bracken, it was resolved that a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs Munro, Bonar, and the mover, be appointed to close up the affairs of the committee, and prepare a repbrt of the same. It was proposed by Mr Ecclesfield, seconded by Mr Munro, aud carried, " That a public meeting be held on Tuesday, the 26th inst., that the committee may be enabled, previously to the formation of the Municipal Council, to give an account of their stewardship, aud resign their powers into the -hands of those who bestowed them." It wa« also resolved that a special meeting of the committee should be held at the usual place on the evening of tho 25th inst.
According to the last resolution, the committee met last night— Messrs Brackon, Eicke, Anderson, Munro, Eeclesfield Prosser, Clarke, and Cassius were present, The balance sheet of the committee was submitted to the meeting, when it vras moved and seconded, " That the honorary secretary be directed to hand over the documents and minute books of the committee to the Municipal Council, on their Saying an amount (not exceeding L3O) ue by the committee for public works, &0., &c, already performed." A vote of thanks to the chairman terminated the last meeting of the Improvement Committee.
