IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE.

Tho usual weekly meeting of the Improvement Committee was held on Thursday evening, at the Queenatown Hotel. There were present, Messrs Cassiua (in the chair), Bonar, Bracken, Ecclosfield, Prosocr, Ileoves, Eicke, and Anderson. After the minutes of the previous meeting had been read and confirmed, a letter was read from the Okarita Improvement ■ Committee, acknowledging the receipt of the rules of tho Hokitika Improvement Committee. Mr Bracken moved — " That the letter be rec«ived," which being seconded by Mr Bonar, was carried. Mr Proaaer stated that tho steps whicli had been taken with regard to carrying out the provisions of the Municipal Council Ordinance, in reference to forming a Municipal Council, viz : by forwarding copies of notice of public meeting, (to be held on the 27th inst.,) to the Superinten- - dent, the " Government Gazette," the 44 Canterbury Press," the " Canterbury Standard," and the "Lyttleton Times": and copies to be sent to each of the local papers ; also, that he had v written to the Superintendent, requesting him to appoint a Chairman for the said meeting, in accordance with the second Clause of the Municipal Council Ordinance : —which course wa9 approved of. It was moved by Mr Prosser, seconded by Mr Bracken, and carried: — "That a memorial be forwarded to his Honor the Superintendent, calling for his immediate attention to the immense sacrifice that has and is daily taking place, from Wharfstreet along tho bank of the Hokitika river in a westerly direction, through the unaccountable delay in carrying out the works necessary for the protecting the river bank and the property adjacent thereto." Mr Sale's letter respecting visiting the Hospital, which had been received and read on the 9th ult., was then 'taken into consideration, and not being considered satisfactory, it was moved by Mr Prosser and seconded by Mr Bonar and carried :— » " That a memorial be sent to the Superin- . tendent, suggesting the desirability of appointing Honorary Visiting Surgeons to the Hokitika Hospital." This concluded the business of tha meeting.
