Little of importance during the month respecting the rebellion. News from the north generally reassuring. Owing to the activity of British men-of-war, piracy is fast decreasing. Sir R. G. MacDonnell, the new Governor of Hong Kong, has arrived at Ceylon. Orders have been received from the Horse Guards to hold four companies of Ceylon Rifles, 100 men each, fully officered, in readiness to embark for Hong Kong, owing to late mortality among British troops there, and to reduce the military expenditure of Ceylon.
