Bombay, 17th April. Indo-European telegraph working satisfactorily. Panical, Sultan of Muscat, sent envoys to the Governor of Bombay, requesting official recognition. Governor refused compliance. H.M.'s. Octayia and Highflyer returned from Persian Gulf to confer with Government on the state of affairs. 130 cases of cholera had broken out on board the Octavia. The first lieutenant died. The vessel was placed in quarantine. Nine Euro* peans were drowned by a boat upsetting in the harbor. There are fresh ydisturbances. The Aden tribe, so 'lately punished by British forces, are again attempting to intercept supplies. Official reports on cotton exported from\Bombay, during February, value *it at L 2,400,000. The question of constructing docks in Back Bay is again revived by tho Reclamation Company. The board of enquiry concerning the wreck of the Jeddo had decided that the commander is to bl?me for not using the lead, and suspended his certificate for six months. The Abyssinian prisoners were released; they are still in the dominions of King Theodoie. Famine has broken out in Bhootan, and the poorer classes are suffering fearfully. The total cost of the Bhootan war was L 250,000. The Bhootan Government remonstrates against a British force remaining on the frontiers after proclamation of peace. Lord Napier has assumed the governorship of Madras. Sir William Denison has received a 1 highly complimentary address previous ;to his departure. The money market is satisfactory. Metals in fair request. Cotton slightly advanced. Opium dull.
