(From the Government Gazette^ of March 6.) Nobth-Easx Coast op Australia. — Cobax Patoh in Blaokwood Ohannbii. Information has been received at tho Admiralty that H.M.S. Salamander, January 20, 1865, whilst steering to tho south-west through ] the Blaokwood channel, on tho route recommended, from Baino Island towards tho Middle Sank, struck on an unknown coral patch, with only soron feot on its shoalost part at I low water. The patch lies about a mile E.S.E. of tho eastern part of tho Middle Banks, or in lat. lldog, 4Vmin. lOsoo. S. ; lon. 143deg. 41min. 85sec. E. It is about 230 yards long, east and west, 110 yards wide, has ten to seventeen fathoms all round it, and fifteen to seveuteeu fathoms in the channol, a mile wide, botwoon it and the reef in connection with tho eastern Band bank on tho Middlo Banks. From its shoalest spot of seven feot, the centre of the eastern sand bank on the Middlo Banks bears W. } N., distant two and a half miles, and tho south extreme of Sir Charles Hardy Islands S.W. fourteen and a half miles. Vessels entering tho Groat Barrier Reef by the Raine Island entrance, should, as soon as possible after passing north or 'south of Raino Island, bring its beacon to boar N. E. $ E., stooring S.W. f W. (allowing for tido and a northerly set) for Sir Charles Hardy Islands. As soon as the beacon is lost sight of, tho vessel will bo clear of tho shoal patches westward of the 100 fathoms lino of soundings, and on tho bank* Look out now for Sir Charles Hardy Islands, and when thoy aro plainly soon, steer for their south extreme on a S.W. JW. bearing, and when the eastern\iost sandbank on the middlo banks boor N. W. by W., and tho west Aslimoro bank (if ■een S.S.W. i W., tho vossel will be well to the south-west of tho Salamander patch, and a course may then bo shapod for either tho north or Pollard channels.
