MINING BOARDS.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE v WEST COAST TIMES."
Km, — Allow mo through the medium of your columns to draw the attention of the miners on the West Coast to the fact, that in tho Goldfields Act of the General Assembly of 1862, the 15th clauso/provides for the establishment of Mining Boards. The clauso is this J— >" Upon a petition of not less than ono hundred persons holding miner's rights or leases under this not, on any Goldfiold, and having held such. rights or leases for not less than three calendar months, it shall be lawful for the Governor in Council if he shall think fit by proclamation to declare such goldfield, or any part thereof, containing not less than one hundred persons holding miser's rights, or leases, to be a district for the purpose of forming a Mining Board, with tho powers and authority hereinafter described, and to declare .the namo of suoh distribt, I and defino the limits thereof, and from time to time to alter suoh limits, and to make others, and to revoke such proclamation if he shall think fit ; and after the publication of suoh proclamation, the locality so described shall become o mining distriot for the purpose." I would therefore suggest, that immediate step 3be taken for the purpose of eliciting public .opinion upon the subjeot, by calling nieotingsat the various diggings on the coast I may mention that another clause in the same act which I havo referred to, delegates the power vested in the Governor, to the Superintendent j so that any petition must be addressed to S.
