The import duties paid at the Custom-house amounted, on Thursday, to LSOO, and yesterday to LS33, being tho two heaviest sums received in the course of the current month. Tho total receipts from the Ist December to the 15th, iuclusive, amounted lo L 4205 11s. The following are particulars of the quantity of gold cleared at Ilokitika and tho export duty paid upon it, from the Ist day of November to the 15th December :—: — Quantity Duty Nov. Ist to 12th 7,100,, 898 18' 6 ,Dec 15th (per ISgmont .. 7,500 „ 035 0 0 Totals 58,333 „ [£7, 289 G 7 The sale of tho brigantine Despatch, advertised by Messrs M'Landress, Hepburn and Co., for Thurnday, did not come off, in consequence of their being no bidders present. < Tho hull, machinory, and standing rigging of tho steamship Maid of the Yarra were to-day sold on tho Spit where sho lies stranded, and realised the following prices:— Hull, engines, &c, LI 80; masts, spars, &c, L 291 3s, making a total of L 471 3s. ' Auction sales during the week have been unusually few, and business inactive. At a salo of general merchandise yesterday, prices realised wore far below actual value. For supply of country orders and of retail dealers fair rates are maintained. We notice in tho Dunedin papers that enquiries in that market are being made for feed oats for the West Coast, which has had the effect of advancing that article.
