MELBOURNE WHOLESALE PRICES CURRENT.
(From the Argus, Nov. 13.) During the week business in the import market has again been interrupted by a holiday ; notwithstanding, however, a considerable nmount of trade has been done, both privately and at auction, though operations have been strictly confined to supplying trade wants. For export, few, if nny, orders have been on the market. Speculation continues dormant, and in consequence no tranasotions otherwise of special importance have come under our notice, but tho aggregate amount of goods which have passed through bond need not be cavilled at. In beeis, bottled ales, nnd esppcially stout, are in active request. Candles maintain the late advance. Dundee goods remain neglected. Coffee, at auction, has been sold to better advantage Dried fruits huvc besn in moderate request. Breadstuff's, though affected by increased supplies and advices from Chili and California, do not, however, show much appearance of giving way. Feeding grains have met with considerable notice. In oils,' kerosene has ht'tracted attention. Quicksilver has brought very extremo rates, an advance of Is per pound daring tho fortnight having been established. Sugars and teas have beeu sold largely. Tobaccos, limber, wines, and spiiits, have not been muoh noticed. In tho money market, the value of coin remains unaltered ; the banks continue to discount two months' paper at eight per cent., three months' at nine per cent., and four months' at ten per cent. The British and foreign arrivals comprise one vessel from China, one from Calcutta, one from the Philippine Islands, one from Chili, one from California, and one from Java.
Saturday, Nov. 11.
The Mrtts.— The advance in flour seems for the presont firmly established, and prices, which were expected to rule a shade easier towards the close of the week, remain unaltered. Best silkdressed flour made from colonial wheat realises L3O, or with bags returned L 29 per ton ; and flour made from Chilian wheat finds a ready market at L 26 per ton. Wheat is still in urgent request, but until offered at an attainable figuro very few transactions are likely to be recorded. A fair demand for country wants continues to be experienced, but town buyers are chary of doing business to any greater extent than suflices to meet immediate requirements. A good enquiry exists for bran, stocks at present being very light. The slight increase in the value of oats has rendered the market for oatmeal firmer ; quotation however, is as previously noted, namely, L 32 per ton, at which figure a steady trade is being done. Millers' prices are as under : — For best silk-dressed flour, L2B to L3O per ton of 2,000 lbs ; best Adelaide brauds, L2B to L3O ; Chilian, L 25 to L2G ; outside brands, L 25 lo L26; -bran, Is 9d to 2s per bushol ; pollard 2s 6d to 3s per bushel ; oatmeal, L 32 pec ton,
