COMMERCIAL.

West Coast Times Office, Friday Evening. We have to report a very quiet state of business during the week. Extreme difliculty has been experienced by importers in placing parcels. The very unsettled state of our market caused by tho late arrivals and a tendency among certain ''holders to press sales, has induced several importers, with confidence in our future prosperity, to store and await tbo recovery of the market, a course which we expect to see rewarded with .more than nominal profits. Spirits are heavy in stock ; largo parcels havo gone into bond direct, importers choosing rather to incur the additional expense than sutler them to be slaughtered in the auction rooms. Tho stocks of gonova are the enly lines which show ■signs of decreasing. Wines continue dull of sale ; a superior heavy pjort has a moderate demand ; other wines, especially caso sherry, aro totally neglected. A continuance of tho present fine weather must <cause an .increased demand for beer. The Nelson brew, in bulk, has become a general favorite with the traders, as much on account of quality as .price. First class bottled beers «.re in fair demand. Ale, in glass, is more limited. Tobaccos continue difficult to move in quantity, the trade boing fully supplied with all kinds. Candles arejjuite unsaleable at importers' prices. Cigars— good Havannas in demand, others nominal. Sugars "aro more settled of late, Stocks are moderate, and demand good. Tea — a very superior congou is sought for, others aro in fair request, at good prices. "Coffee heavy in stock, and only saleable in small parcels at a nominal advance. Flour shews further decline, Adolaide difficult to place, Chilian immoveable. Oats continue to have an upward tendency, stocks being extremely light. Chaff and bran easy. Hams and bacon exhibit a tendency to advance on tho late ruinous prices. Holders are firm at an advance* on quotations. Cheese in limited demand j stocks light. Oatmeal and barley quiet, at fair prices. Soap saleablo at a low figure. Oilmen's stores are in good demand at prices which are out' of proportion with high freights General ironmongery very saleable at good prices. Axes and picks in limited demand, and fair stocks in the market. Building material—lron, increased demand for light guagc, English make ; very largo parcels to hand of other qualities. Timber continues scarce, American lumber and Scotch flooring only held in stock, local timber ordered in advance. The presence of an eflicicut steam lug specially suited to bar harbors, together with the safe condition of the bar itself, leads us to believe that we have seen the last of thoso disasters which have given the harbor such unenviable notoriety.
