Whilo here she secured ho 1 ' deck cargo, which had been shifted by a heavy sea that broko on board of lier on the 6th. Left again tho saino day, arriving in Hokitika roads on Tuesday last, and ■a'ongsido tho wharf yesterday morning, \ Tho schooner Eliza Simpson, Praser, ■commander, left Dunedin on the 30th ult., it blowing hard from tho N.W. ; ran into Tonga for shelter ; she lay thero until tho 3rd October and then shifted her anchorage On tho 7th, tho weather moderating, hove up her anchor and proceeded to sea. Encountering a very heavy gale from tho westward on tho 13th and 14th, she was obliged to heave-to for a day, and on tho 1761 i eamo to an anchor in tho roadstead, nnd reached the wharf yesterday. The s.H. Kennedy, Captain Whitwell, left Nelson ,on the 13th in.-dnnt. Same night anchored under I'arewell Spit, it blowing hard from tho westward Loft aguiH next morning, '.. and arrived in tho roadstead Sunday morning «arlv. She laid at anchor outside until Tuesday
night, the bar not being considered safe to ■cross. The s.s. Koora, Captain Pcarce, left Melbourne on tho 10th instant. Experienced fine weather all the way across, arriving off Hokitika on tho 15th. This is the first visit this fine boat has paid us, having been during the list fivfc years running between Melbourno and Port Albert. She is 113 tons register, and is driven by a screw worked by two engines of 30 horse-power each. Sho is licensed to cany 83 passengers, and is intended to run between this port and Dunediu.
