A very considerable amount of business has been dono during the week, both wholesale and retail. Tho rapid influx of large numbers of miners has induced tho up country 'buyers to purchase somewhat freely. Several additional storekeepers havealsocomo with the late arrivals, who havo well stocked themselves before proceeding to the scene of their labors. The class of goods most in demand during the week are thoso staples indispensable to a digging population. Bacon has been placed in considerable quantities at prices which shew <i slight decline on our last quotations. Sinclair's new cure, sells freely at Is 6d. Cooy's, Is sd. Broom'B, Is 3d to Is id ; other brands, Is 2d to Is 3d. Hams continue scarce, and favorite brands hold for Is 74d to Is Oil.
Butter, though light in stock, does not seem to move easily. Good Wellington is worth 2s Cd ; new Cork, Is 8d to Is lOd ; other kinds unsaleable. Caudles, of which a considerable quantity was cleared at Kennedy's auction sale, at Is Id .'to Is 2d P\V, seems at present not in demand, tho trade having been fully supplied by the recent heavy importations. Sugar can be placed only at a reduction on late prices. Mauritius light crystal commands 62s to 64s ; Ist counter, 75a to 80s. Brandy is rather dull, niT>t-cluss brands selling, in bond, at 11s to 12s for pale, and Cs 6d for daik. The heavy stocks of genova operate much against that article, JDKZ of full contents, duty paid, has been placed in small parcels a.t 58s to 60s ; outside brands a shade lower. Superior port wine is sought for at Ll7 10s to L2O por qr cask Porter in case has been placed, in the auction rooms, iv fair parcels at 18s to 19s for Blood's and Byass's,
Whisky has been sold in bond during tho week at 12s for Saucol, showing a considerable reduction on former prices. Kerosene is very unsaleable at prices which barely realise cost.; 1 Flour continued dull and tending to a declin'Sfpn last quotations. A good demand exists for/suitable hardware, as gold dishes, buckets, axes, and picks, at good prices.
Shipments for tho Grey have almost ceased, the arrivals at that port having placed tho mmket there on an equal footing as regards prices, with our own. A large body of tho ji«w coiners having gone south, considcmble parcels of general provisions and spirits havo been despatched in that diiection.
