The s.b. Hero left Melbourne at 8 a.m. on the 16th, having hauled from tho pier on tho previous evening. Cleared Port Philip Ileads at noon, and observed at the signal -station that the English mail had been telegraphed . Sunday 17th, light winds and tine clear weather ; Monday 18th, light westerly wind and fine; Tuesday 12th, strong southerly wind and fino ; Wednesday 20th, light southerly wind and lino ; Thursday 21st, airs and cloudy. The Gothenburg, Captain Mackic, left Nelson at 6 n.ru. on tho morning of Sunday tlie 17th, and rounded Farewell Spit at 10 a.m., when sho experienced strong S.S.W. winds, which gradually rose towards evening, and on Tuesday morning it had increased to half a gale. Captain Mackie then bore up for Totarauui, whore ho found the William Miskin lying at anchor, having left on Friday morning ; and on Tuesday the Samson, from Dunedin, also put in for shelter. On Wednesday, the weather having moderated somewhat, weighed anchor at 3 p.m., and sailed in company with tho William Miskiu and Samson, arriving off Hokitika at C p.m. on Thursday, experiencing fresh head winds on the passage. The Lyttelton arrived, from tho Grey, aa tho Gothenburg loft Nelson ; and the Barwon was passed in Blind Bay early on Sunday morning. The Samson left Dunedin on Thursday tho l4th instant, buing bound for the Grey, to discharge cargo, and wo are informed by Captain Robertson that she is to remain on the West Coast.
