HOKITIKA IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE.

A meeting of tho Improvement Commitlco was held on Thursday night. There were present Messrs Hevo, Bouar, Clarke, Bracken, Munro, Palmor, Prossor, ITawkos, and Anderson. Mr Ilawkes occupied tho chair. The minutes of tho last meeting were read and confirmed. A report of tho deputation recently appointed to wait upon Mr Salo, relative to wharf extension and other improvements, was brought up, and was as follows :—: — Tho deputation having explained tho intended works, Mr Salo informed thorn that ho would assist tho commit lco by mooting them half way, viz., in subsidising public subscriptions to an equal amount to that collected by the committeo.

Moved by Mr Palmor, seconded by M r Hooves — " That tho committee express their surprise at tho dilatoriness of the press in not causing a reporter to put in an appearance occasionally to take notes of the proceedings of tho committeo for public information." Moved as an amendment by Mr Prossor, seconded by Mr Bonar — " That in conquencc of tho roporfcs of this committee not having been published regularly, tho pross bo invited to attend tho weekly meetings on Thursday evenings." On being pnt to tho vote, Messrs Bonar, Munro, and Prosser voted for tho amendment, ancbYEosßrsPalmor,Koovos,Brackpn, Clarko, and Andorson against. The original motion was thoreforo carried. Moved by Mrßracken, seconded by Mr Bonar — "That Messrs Craig and Go's tender for ftevoll street bo accepted, and that tho clerk acquaint them with this resolution, and request them to forward tho names of their sureties to tho commit too to-morrow, tho 15th inst., in order that tho bond may bo completed on Saturday." Carried. Moved by Mr Prossor, seconded by Mr Bracken — " That as thoro was an error in tho specification in roforenco to tho Gibson's-quay footpaths, fresh tenders be invitod in Saturday's paper. Tenders to bo recoivod up to six o'clock, p.m., on Tuesday next, 10th inst." Carried. Moved by Mr. Hooves, seconded by Mr. Bonar— "That Mr. Lynch's letter and Mr. O'Brien's toncler be received, and laid on the table." Carried.

Moved by Mr. Prossor, seconded by Mr. Bonar — " That tho secretary bo empowered to pay Mr. Hackott tho amount of his account, for preparing plnns and specifications, &c, viz., JSO Gs." Carried. Moved by Mr. Bracken, seconded by Mr. Beeves, and carried — "That this committeo record a vote of thanks to Charles 11. Thatcher, Esq., for his liborality in giving tho successful concord in aid of tho Ilokitika Hospital in tho Corinthian Hal), which realised tho handsomo amount of JSOO, and that the secretary connnunicalo the samo to him in Nelson."

Moved by Mr. Palmor, seconded by Mr. Clarke — " That Messrs. Bracken and KoovoS wait upon Mr. Broham respecting nuisances oxisting in tho town." Moved by Mr Prossor, soconded hy Mr Clarke, and carried — " That, as it is rumoured that tho town allotments aro to bo sold, and that as tho reply of tho Grovornmont, dated 17th July, in regard to the memorial on this subject is very indefinite, a public meeting bo callod on tho 20lh Soptombev, at eight o'clock, to consider whether a public memorial should be scut to the Provincial Government." NOTICES OF MOTION, Mr Prossor to move—" That a memorial bo sent to tho Provincial Government praying that thoy will appoint an engineer to roporfc upon Iho best means of improving tho harbor." Mr Munro to move—" That a communication bo addressed to tho Chief Postnmslor, oai'nostly ropresonting to him tho advisability of altering his present determination of forwarding- all lottors outwards (except those for Nolson) not espc-
