During the past month several jointstock companies and European and native firms have failed, with enormous liabilities. A great battle has been fought between the Ameer of Cabul and the Candahar I Sandras, in Avhich the heir-apparent was killed. The ruler of Kokan has been killed, and his country made over to the Khan of Bokhara. One hundred and eight people were j killed by an avalanche in Pangi, on the Upper Chenab. The Governor-General has issued orders that the export duties on sugar, coffee, teas, jute, wool, hides, aad silk should cease, and the duty on rice and other grain be reduced to two annas per maund. The heat at Calcutta was intense. Cholera prevails in a great number of the provinces. Many Europeans have died from its effects. At Cairo aud Aden cholera also rages. Famine prevails in Arabia. A requisition has been sent from the authorities at Aden to the Government at Bombay to send a shipload of wheat promptly to relieve the distress.
